Problems with Metal-on-Metal Hip Implants Canadian Institute Health Survey Reaffirms

Filed under: Baycol — Tags: — Lawyer @ 6:43 pm

It has become abundantly clear as a result of numerous medical studies and reports of complications to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) that metal-on-metal hip implants are disastrous for patients. Our experienced attorneys know that metal-on-metal products are marketed primarily to younger and more active individuals with the promise that these new medical devices will last longer than traditional hip implant systems. Unfortunately, it seems the exact opposite is true.

The high failure rate of metal-on-metal hip implants has been confirmed in yet another in-depth study, this one conducted by the Canadian Institute for Health. As reported by CBC News Health, the study showed that  the failure rate of metal-on-metal devices was not just higher, but was around twice as high as the chances of failure with metal-on-plastic implants.

Canadian Health Institute Survey Shows High Failure Rates of Metal-on-Metal Hip Replacement Products

The Canadian Institute for Health study involved a review of 56,942 hip surgeries that were performed from 2003 through 2011 throughout Canada.  Of the hip implant surgeries included in the study:

  • Twenty-three percent of patients had received metal-on-plastic implants.
  • Nine percent of patients had received metal-on-metal implants.
  • Eight percent of patients had received ceramic-on-ceramic implants.
  • Five percent of patients had received ceramic-on-plastic implants.

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – They didn’t get to watch their children grow up into young adults Texas News346

Filed under: Car Accident Lawyers — Tags: , — Lawyer @ 4:09 pm

Ramirez, Kristie Mayhugh, 40, and Cassandra Rivera, 38, along with Anna Vasquez, 38, were found guilty of molesting two girls in alleged assaults in 1994 that an expert has described as reminiscent of the Satanic ritual day care abuse cases of the 1980s and early 1990s. The women, known nationally as the “San Antonio 4,” always maintained their innocence. On Monday, after the district attorney agreed the group was entitled to a new trial on the grounds that recent scientific advances undermined testimony pivotal to their convictions, Ramirez, Mayhugh and Rivera were released on bond. Vasquez was paroled last year.

“I couldn’t sleep last night. I couldn’t believe I was here,” said Rivera, a mother of two who met her granddaughter for the first time Monday night. Rivera said she found herself staring at her 20-something son and daughter, who were just 9 and 8 years old when she first went to prison nearly 14 years ago. “I can’t believe they’re with me,” she said.

During their time in prison, they had sent letter after letter to innocence groups and anyone who they thought could help them win exoneration. Along the way, they received many rejection letters and had many false starts.

The women, who weren’t incarcerated in the same facilities, described having to fend for themselves in prison (Vasquez and Ramirez were at the same correctional center for a short time).

Ramirez, the first to go to prison nearly 17 years ago, said she had never been in trouble in her life and was at first scared behind bars. Other inmates knew that she had been convicted of molesting girls and threatened to hurt her. But one reached out. “She took me under her wing and protected me. She schooled me about prison: you go do your time and this is how you do it,” she said.

Cassandra Rivera hugs her son Michael on Nov. 19, his 22nd birthday and her first full day out of prison in nearly 14 years. “I made it in time for your birthday,” she told him Monday just after her release.

Vasquez and Rivera, who entered prison three years after Ramirez, said a woman in their initial unit wanted to jump them until she heard their side of the story: they told her they were falsely accused.

The group ended up doing the same with other inmates, but some still called them child molesters, Rivera said. “I still walked with my head held high because I knew I was innocent. We were innocent,” she said. “We know what happened, and the truth is going to eventually come out.”

The women, except for Ramirez, could have avoided prison. Plea deals were offered, but they refused to accept them on the grounds that they were innocent. They could have left prison earlier, too, if they agreed to participate in a sex offender treatment program, which they all rejected.

Call the Carse Law Firm 877-865-2580. If you or someone you know is on dialysis, you need to know the FDA recall GranuFlo and NaturaLyte products used at Fresenius clinics all across the country. Major complications have been reported such as heart attack and even death.

The Food and Drug Administration issued a recall as a result of the leaked memo from Fresenius Medical Care to its own doctors. The November 2011 memo alerted medical directors and doctors about the alarming risk factor linked to use of GranuFlo and NaturaLyte. Fresenius, however, did not alert the thousands of doctors and dialysis centers outside of its own network. Those doctors continued to use the product. It’s shocking that Fresenius failed to warn all doctors using GranuFlo about the potentially lethal side effects.

Are Seattle And Tacoma Drivers Among America’s Worst – Article 975

Filed under: New Jersey Lawyers — Tags: — Lawyer @ 8:08 am

Drivers in Seattle and Tacoma have a better chance of being involved in car crash than the American average driver, according to a recent study conducted by Allstate Insurance on America’s safest driving cities.

The study, titled “Allstate America’s Best Drivers Report,” is the insurance giant’s ninth annual snapshot into the best – and worst – driving cities in America. Our car accident lawyers in Tacoma know that auto accidents are more likely in densely populated areas, but drivers can take steps to reduce the risk of a crash.

Survey finds Seattle drivers face increased accident risk

Allstate America’s Best Drivers Report ranks cities based on their population and Allstate car accident claims in the cities. With up to 10% of all drivers nationwide insured by Allstate, the study has offered valuable insight into the causes – and locations – of car accidents nationwide for a decade.

Seattle ranks 160th out of America’s 200 largest cities. The study found that when compared to the national average, Seattle drivers were 28.8 percent more likely to be involved in an accident. Coming in at 144th on the list, Tacoma fared slightly better, with drivers facing a 23.9 percent higher chance of being in a crash compared to the national average.

In comparison, drivers in the nation’s top-ranked cities – Fort Collins, CO and Boise, ID – faced accident risks which were nearly 30 percent less than the national average, revealing a striking spread between the nation’s best and worst cities for drivers.
